أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ هُوَ ابْنُ سُنْبَرَ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ عَنْ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَلَّبِ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي زَنَيْتُ وَهِيَ حُبْلَى فَدَفَعَهَا إِلَى وَلِيِّهَا فَقَالَ «أَحْسِنْ إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ فَائْتِنِي بِهَا» فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْ جَاءَ بِهَا فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَشَكَتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابَهَا ثُمَّ رَجَمَهَا ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا وَقَدْ زَنَتْ؟ فَقَالَ «لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لِلَّهِ؟» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَبُو الْمُهَاجِرِ خَطَأٌ وَالصَّوَابُ أَبُو الْمُهَلَّبِ وَأَبُو قِلَابَةَ اسْمُهُ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ زَيْدٍ

✧ A woman from Juhayna came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: I have committed fornication, and she was pregnant. He handed her over to her guardian and said: “Be good to her, and when she gives birth, bring her to me.” When she gave birth, he brought her. He ordered that her clothes be fastened around her, then he stoned her, then he prayed over her. ‘Umar said to him: You pray over her when she has committed fornication? He said: “She has repented with a repentance that, if divided among seventy of the people of Madinah, would suffice them. Have you found anything better than her giving her own self for God?” Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman said: Abu al-Muhajir is a mistake; the correct is Abu al-Muhallab, and Abu Qilaba’s name is ‘Abd Allah b. Zayd.
