✧ Can someone be held accountable for someone else's crime?

أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي يَرْبُوعٍ قَالَ

أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُكَلِّمُ النَّاسَ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ نَاسٌ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَؤُلَاءِ بَنُو فُلَانٍ الَّذِي قَتَلُوا فُلَانًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَجْنِي نَفْسٌ عَلَى أُخْرَى»

Translation

✧ We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was addressing the people. Some people stood up to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, these are the Banu so-and-so, those who killed so-and-so." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "No soul shall bear the sin of another."
