✧ Mentioning what Satan makes permissible for food.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ الْأَرْحَبِيِّ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ

كُنَّا إِذَا كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَدُعِينَا إِلَى طَعَامٍ لَمْ نَضَعْ أَيْدِيَنَا حَتَّى يَضَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ فَدُعِينَا إِلَى طَعَامٍ فَلَمْ يَضَعْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ فَكَفَفْنَا فَجَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ كَأَنَّمَا يَطْرِدُ فَأَهْوَى بِيَدِهِ إِلَى الْقَصْعَةِ فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدِهِ فَأَجْلَسَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَتْ جَارِيَةٌ فَأَهْوَتْ بِيَدِهَا إِلَى الْقَصْعَةِ فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدِهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَمَّا أَعْيَاهُ أَنْ نَدَعَ ذِكْرَ اللهِ عَلَى طَعَامِنَا فَجَاءَ بِهَذَا الْأَعْرَابِيُّ لِيَسْتَحِلَّ بِهِ طَعَامَنَا فَلَمَّا حَبَسْنَاهُ جَاءَ بِهَذِهِ الْجَارِيَةِ لِيَسْتَحِلَّ بِهَا طَعَامَنَا فَوَاللهِ إِنَّ يَدَهُ فِي يَدِي مَعَ يَدِهَا» ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ اسْمَ اللهِ فَأَكَلَ

✧ When we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and were invited to food, we would not put our hands until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ put his hand. We were invited to food, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not put his hand, so we refrained. A Bedouin came as if he were driving something, and he reached with his hand toward the bowl. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took his hand and seated him. Then a slave girl came and reached with her hand toward the bowl. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took her hand. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Satan, when he despaired of us forgetting to mention Allah's name over our food, brought this Bedouin to make our food permissible through him. When we restrained him, he brought this slave girl to make our food permissible through her. By Allah, his hand is in my hand along with her hand." Then he mentioned the name of Allah and ate.
