أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ عَنْ مَعْدَانَ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ «إِنَّكُمْ تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْ شَجَرَتَيْنِ لَا أَرَاهُمَا إِلَّا خَبِيثَتَيْنِ الثُّومِ وَالْبَصَلِ إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيَأْمُرُ بِالرَّجُلِ يُوجَدُ مِنْهُ رِيحُهُمَا فَيَخْرُجُ بِهِ إِلَى الْبَقِيعِ فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ آكِلَهُمَا لَا بُدَّ فَلْيُمِتْهُمَا طَبْخًا» خَالَفَهُ حُصَيْنٌ وَمَنْصُورٌ

Translation

✧ Umar b. al-Khattab said: "You eat from two plants which I consider nothing but foul: garlic and onions. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would order a man on whom their smell was found to be taken out to al-Baqi. Whoever of you must eat them, let him kill them by cooking." Husayn and Mansur disagreed with him.
