أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُفَضَّلُ بْنُ مُهَلْهِلٍ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ وَالْأَسْوَدِ أَنَّهُمَا دَخَلَا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ «صَلَّى هَؤُلَاءِ خَلْفَكُمْ؟» قَالَا قُلْنَا لَا قَالَ «فَصَلُّوا» قَالَ
فَقَامَ بَيْنَنَا ثُمَّ صَلَّى فَلَمَّا رَكَعْنَا وَضَعْنَا أَيْدِينَا عَلَى الرُّكَبِ فَضَرَبَهَا فَإِذَا هُوَ قَدْ طَبَّقَ فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ «إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ أُمَرَاءٌ يُمِيتُونَ الصَّلَاةَ يَخْنُقُونَهَا شَرَقَ الْمَوْتَى وَتِلْكَ صَلَاةُ مَنْ لَا يَجِدُ بُدًّا وَمَنْ هُوَ شَرٌّ مِنْ حِمَارٍ فَصَلَّوَا الصَّلَاةَ لِمِيقَاتِهَا وَصَلَّوْا مَعَهُمْ سُبْحَةً فَإِذَا كُنْتُمْ ثَلَاثَةً فَصَلَّوْا جَمِيعًا وَإِذَا كُنْتُمْ أَكْثَرَ فَلْيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَحَدُكُمْ وَإِذَا رَكَعَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَضَعْ يَدَيْهِ بَيْنَ رُكْبَتَيْهِ أَوْ بَيْنَ فَخِذَيْهِ وَلْيُجَبِّ فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى اخْتِلَافِ أَصَابِعِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»

✧ Then he stood among us and prayed. When we bowed, we placed our hands on our knees, but he struck them, and behold he had clasped his hands together. When he finished the prayer, he said: 'There will be rulers who kill the prayer, strangling it to the death-rattle of the dead. That is the prayer of one who has no alternative and who is worse than a donkey. So pray the prayer at its proper time, and pray with them as supererogatory. If you are three, pray together, and if you are more, let one of you lead you. When one of you bows, let him place his hands between his knees or between his thighs, and let him press his fingers together. It is as if I am looking at the interweaving of the fingers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'
