أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ حَدَّثَهُ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ خَاصَمَ الزُّبَيْرَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي شِرَاجِ الْحَرَّةِ الَّتِي يَسْقُونَ بِهَا النَّخْلَ فَقَالَ لِلْأَنْصَارِيِّ سَرِّحِ الْمَاءَ يَمُرُّ فَأَبَى عَلَيْهِ فَاخْتَصَمُوا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِلزُّبَيْرِ «أَسْقِ يَا زُبَيْرُ ثُمَّ أَرْسِلْ إِلَى جَارِكَ» فَغَضِبَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْ كَانَ ابْنَ عَمَّتِكَ فَتَلَوَّنَ وَجْهُ نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَالَ «يَا زُبَيْرُ أَسْقِ ثُمَّ احْبِسِ الْمَاءَ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ إِلَى الْجَدْرِ» فَقَالَ الزُّبَيْرُ وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأَحْسِبُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ نَزَلَتْ فِي ذَلِكَ {فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّى يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ} [النساء 65]

✧ That a man from the Ansar brought a dispute with Zubayr to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concerning the water channels of the Harrah by which they irrigated palm trees. He said to the Ansari, 'Release the water so that it flows on.' He refused. They brought their dispute before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Zubayr, 'Irrigate, O Zubayr, then release it to your neighbor.' The Ansari became angry and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, is it because he is your aunt's son?' The face of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ changed color, then he said, 'O Zubayr, irrigate, then hold back the water until it returns to the wall.' Zubayr said, 'By Allah, I think this verse was revealed about that: But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you judge concerning what arises between them' [Quran 4:65].
