أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سُوَيْدُ بْنُ غَفَلَةَ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ زَيْدِ بْنِ صُوحَانَ وَسَلْمَانَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ فَالْتَقَطْتُ سَوْطًا بِالْعُذَيْبِ فَقَالَا دَعْهُ فَقُلْتُ لَا أدَعُهُ تَأْكُلُهُ السِّبَاعُ أَنْتَفِعُ بِهِ فَقَدِمْتُ بِهِ عَلَى أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ الْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ

أَحْسَنْتَ وَجَدْتُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ صُرَّةً فِيهَا مِائَةُ دِينَارٍ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِهَا فَقَالَ «عَرِّفْهَا حَوْلًا» فَعَرَّفْتُهَا حَوْلًا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ إِلَى الْحَوْلِ الثَّانِي فَقَالَ «عَرِّفْهَا» فَعَرَّفْتُهَا حَوْلًا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ فَقَالَ «عَرِّفْهَا» فَعَرَّفْتُهَا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ الثَّالِثَ فَقَالَ «اعْلَمْ عِدَّتَهَا وَوِعَاءَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا فَإِنْ جَاءَ أَحَدٌ يُخْبِرُ بِعَدَدِهَا وَوِعَائِهَا وَوِكَائِهَا فَأَعْطِهَا إِيَّاهُ وَإِلَّا فَاسْتَنْفِعْ بِهَا»

✧ You have done well. I found a purse containing a hundred dinars during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I brought it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: “Announce it for a year.” I announced it for a year, then I came to him in the second year. He said: “Announce it.” I announced it for a year, then I came to him. He said: “Announce it.” I announced it, then I came to him the third time. He said: “Know its number, its container, and its tie. If anyone comes and informs you of its number, its container, and its tie, then give it to him; otherwise, make use of it.”
