✧ On the day of Khaybar, my brother fought fiercely along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and his sword turned against him and killed him. The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke about that and doubted him, saying, "A man who died by his own weapon." Salamah said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from Khaybar, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, do you permit me to recite some verses to you?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted me. Umar b. al-Khattab said, "Know what you are saying." I said: [Rajaz meter] "By Allah, were it not for Allah, we would not have been guided, nor would we have given charity, nor prayed." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You have spoken the truth." [Rajaz meter] "So send down tranquility upon us, and make our feet firm when we meet, and the polytheists have transgressed against us." When I finished my verses, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who said this?" I said, "My brother." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah have mercy on him." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, some people are hesitant to pray over him, saying, 'A man who died by his own weapon.'" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He died as a striver and a mujahid." Ibn Shihab said: Then I asked a son of Salamah b. al-Akwa', and he narrated to me from his father something similar, except that he said, when I said, "Some people are hesitant to pray over him," the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "They lied. He died as a striver and a mujahid, so he has his reward twice," and he gestured with two fingers.
