✧ The Day of the Great Pilgrimage

أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنِ ابْنِ غَرْقَدَةَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ يَقُولُ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ أَيُّ يَوْمٍ هَذَا؟» قَالُوا يَوْمُ النَّحْرِ يَوْمُ الْحَجِّ الْأَكْبَرِ قَالَ «فَإِنَّ دِمَاءَكُمْ وَأَمْوَالَكُمْ وَأَعْرَاضَكُمْ بَيْنَكُمْ حَرَامٌ كَحُرْمَةِ يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا فِي بَلَدِكُمْ هَذَا أَلَا لَا يَجْنِي جَانٍّ عَلَى وَلَدِهِ وَلَا مَوْلُودٌ عَلَى وَالِدِهِ أَلَا إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَدْ يَئِسَ أَنْ يُعْبَدَ فِي بَلَدِكُمْ هَذَا أَبَدًا وَلَكِنْ سَتَكُونُ لَهُ طَاعَةٌ فِي بَعْضِ مَا تَحْقِرُونَ مِنَ أَعْمَالِكُمْ فَيَرْضَى أَلَا وَإِنَّ كُلَّ رِبًا مِنْ رِبَا الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يُوضَعُ لَكُمْ رُءُوسُ أَمْوَالِكُمْ لَا يُظْلِمُونَ وَلَا تُظْلَمُونَ أَلَا وَإِنَّ كُلَّ دَمٍ مِنْ دِمَاءِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ مَوْضُوعٌ وَأَوَّلُ مَا أَضَعُ مِنْهَا دَمَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ كَانَ مُسْتَرْضَعًا فِي بَنِي لَيْثٍ فَقَتَلَتْهُ هُذَيْلٌ أَلَا يَا أُمَّتَاهُ هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ؟» ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ اشْهَدْ»

✧ I witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage saying: “O people” three times, “What day is this?” They said: “The Day of Sacrifice, the Day of the Great Pilgrimage.” He said: “Indeed your blood, your wealth, and your honor are forbidden among you like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this land of yours. Verily, no offender bears the guilt of his child, nor does a child bear the guilt of his parent. Verily, Satan has despaired of being worshipped in this land of yours ever, but he will be obeyed in some of what you deem insignificant of your deeds, and he will be pleased with that. Verily, every riba of the riba of Jahiliyyah is abolished. Yours is your principal; you shall not wrong, nor shall you be wronged. Verily, every blood of the blood of Jahiliyyah is abolished, and the first I abolish of it is the blood of al-Harith b. ʿAbd al-Muttalib, who had been nursed among Banu Layth and was killed by Hudhayl. Verily, O my Ummah, have I conveyed?” three times. They said: “Yes.” He said: “O Allah, bear witness.”
