✧ While I was at the House, between sleeping and waking, one of three came between two men. A golden basin was brought to me full of wisdom and faith, and my chest was split from the throat to the lower belly, then my heart was washed with Zamzam water, then filled with wisdom and faith. Then I was brought a white animal, smaller than a mule and larger than a donkey, called al-Buraq, and I set off with Jibril.” And he narrated the hadith, saying: “Then fifty prayers were made obligatory upon me. I came back until I passed by Musa. He said: What did you do? I said: Fifty prayers were made obligatory upon me. He said: I know people better than you. I have dealt with the Children of Israel with the severest dealing, and your ummah will never be able to bear that. So go back to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for you.” He said: “So I went back to my Lord, and He made them forty prayers. Then I came back until I passed by Musa. He said: What did you do? I said: He made them forty prayers. He said: I know people better than you. I have dealt with the Children of Israel with the severest dealing, and your ummah will never be able to bear that. So go back to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for you. So I went back to my Lord and asked Him to lighten it for me, and He made them thirty prayers. Then I came back until I passed by Musa. He said: What did you do? I said: He made them thirty prayers. He said: I know people better than you. I have dealt with the Children of Israel with the severest dealing, and your ummah will never be able to bear that. So go back to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for you. [198] So I went back to my Lord and asked Him to lighten it for me, and He made them twenty. Then I came back until I passed by Musa. He said: What did you do? I said: He made them twenty prayers. He said: I know people better than you. I have dealt with the Children of Israel with the severest dealing, and your ummah will never be able to bear that. So go back to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for you. So I went back to my Lord and asked Him to lighten it for me, and He made them ten prayers. Then I came back until I passed by Musa. He said: What did you do? I said: He made them ten prayers. He said: I know people better than you. I have dealt with the Children of Israel with the severest dealing, and your ummah will never be able to bear that. So go back to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for you. So I went back to my Lord and asked Him to lighten it for me, and He made them five prayers. Then I came back until I passed by Musa. He said: What did you do? I said: He made them five prayers. He said: I know people better than you. I have dealt with the Children of Israel with the severest dealing, and your ummah will never be able to bear that. So go back to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for you. I said: I am content and I submit. Then it was proclaimed: I have established My obligation and lightened it for My servants, and I will reward a good deed ten times its like. Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said to us: Al-Zuhri narrated this hadith, and al-Zuhri differed from Qatadah in its chain and text. Ibn Wahb narrated it from Yunus from al-Zuhri from Anas from Abu Dharr. Some of Yunus's companions narrated it from Yunus from al-Zuhri from Anas from Ubayy, which is a mistake. It seems that “Dharr” fell out of the book and became "from Ubayy," so he thought it was Ubayy. This hadith is also narrated from al-Zuhri from Anas, and it is narrated by Thabit from Anas from the Prophet ﷺ without mentioning Malik b. Sa'sa'ah or Abu Dharr.
