al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 2941

✧ Fasting for those who wake up in a state of impurity, and mentioning the differences concerning Abu Huraira in that matter.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ قَالَ بَنَى يَعْلَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَأَصْبَحَ جُنُبًا فَسَأَلَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ فَقَالَ أَفْطِرْ فَقَالَ أَلَا أَصُومُ هَذَا الْيَوْمَ وَأُجْزِيهِ بِيَوْمٍ مَكَانَهُ؟ قَالَ لَا فَأَتَى مَرْوَانَ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَأَرْسَلَ أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ فَسَأَلَهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ فَيَغْتَسِلُ ثُمَّ يُصْبِحُ صَائِمًا قَالَ الْقَ بِهَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ جَارِي جَارِي قَالَ عَزَمْتُ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا لَقِيتَهُ فَلَقِيتُهُ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَإِنَّمَا حَدَّثَنِي بِذَلِكَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قُلْتُ لِرَجَاءٍ مَنْ حَدَّثَكَ عَنْ يَعْلَى؟ قَالَ إِيَّايَ حَدَّثَ بِهِ يَعْلَى 2942 وَفِيمَا قَرَأَ عَلَيْنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ النَّاسِ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ بَلَغَ مَرْوَانَ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «مَنْ أَدْرَكَهُ الصُّبْحُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ فَلَا يَصُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ» فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ يَسْأَلُهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَانْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهُ فَسَأَلَهَا فَقَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ احْتِلَامٍ ثُمَّ يَصُومُ يَوْمَهُ» فَرَجَعَ إِلَى مَرْوَانَ فَحَدَّثَهُ فَقَالَ الْقَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ فَحَدِّثْهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ لَجَارِي وَإِنِّي لَأَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَسْتَقْبِلَهُ بِمَا يَكْرَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَعْزِمُ عَلَيْكَ لَتَلْقَيَنَّهُ قَالَ فَلَقِيَهُ فَحَدَّثَهُ فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الْفَضْلُ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ خَالَفَهُمَا عُمَرُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would wake up in a state of major ritual impurity without a wet dream, then perform ghusl, then begin the day fasting. He said: Meet Abu Hurayrah with this. He said: He is my neighbor, my neighbor. He said: I adjure you to meet him. So I met him and narrated the hadith to him. He said: Indeed I did not hear it from the Prophet ﷺ; rather al-Fadl b. 'Abbas narrated that to me. I said to Raja': Who narrated to you from Ya'la? He said: Ya'la narrated it to me himself. [2942] And in what Ahmad b. Mani' read to us, he said: Isma'il narrated to us from Ayyub from 'Ikrimah b. Khalid from Abu Bakr b. 'Abd al-Rahman b. al-Harith, who said: I am the most knowledgeable of people about this hadith. It reached Marwan that Abu Hurayrah narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said: 'Whoever is overtaken by dawn while in a state of major ritual impurity should not fast that day.' So he sent to 'A'ishah to ask her about that, and I went with him. He asked her, and she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ 'would wake up in a state of major ritual impurity without a wet dream, then fast his day.' So he returned to Marwan and narrated it to him. He said: Meet Abu Hurayrah and narrate it to him. He said: He is my neighbor, and I dislike confronting him with what he dislikes. He said to him: I adjure you to meet him. He said: So he met him and narrated it to him. He said: Al-Fadl narrated to me. Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: 'Umar b. Abi Bakr b. 'Abd al-Rahman contradicted both of them.
