قَرَأْتُ عَلَى أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَائِذٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنِ حَمْزَةَ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَصَعِدَ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ؟
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لِهَذَا الْيَوْمِ «هَذَا يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ وَلَمْ يَكْتُبِ اللهُ عَلَيْكُمْ صِيَامَهُ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَصُومَهُ فَلْيَصُمْهُ وَمَنْ كَرِهَ فَلْيَدَعْهُ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ خَطَأٌ لَا نَعْلَمُ أَنَّ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ غَيْرَ هَذَا وَالصَّوَابُ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say concerning this day: “This is the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ, and Allah has not prescribed its fasting upon you. I am fasting, so whoever of you wishes to fast it, let him fast it, and whoever dislikes it, let him leave it.” Abu ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: This is an erroneous ḥadīth. We do not know that anyone among the companions of al-Zuhrī said in this ḥadīth “from Abū Salamah” other than this, and the correct version is Ḥumayd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān.
