أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْمِسْوَرِ الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ
كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ فَأَطَالَ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ وَأَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ فِي السُّجُودِ نَحْوَ ذَلِكَ وَجَعَلَ يَبْكِي فِي سُجُودِهِ وَيَنْفُخُ وَيَقُولُ «رَبِّ لَمْ تَعِدْنِي هَذَا وَأَنَا أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لَمْ تَعِدْنِي هَذَا وَأَنَا فِيهِمْ» فَلَمَّا صَلَّى قَالَ عُرِضَتْ عَلَيَّ الْجَنَّةُ حَتَّى لَوْ مَدَدْتُ يَدِي تَنَاوَلْتُ مِنْ قُطُوفِهَا وَعُرِضَتْ عَلَيَّ النَّارُ فَجَعَلْتُ أَنْفُخُ خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَغْشَاكُمْ حَرُّهَا وَرَأَيْتُ فِيهَا سَارِقَ بَدَنَتَيْ رَسُولِ اللهِ وَرَأَيْتُ فِيهَا أَخَا بَنِي دَعْدَعٍ سَارِقَ الْحَجِيجِ فَإِذَا فُطِنَ لَهُ قَالَ هَذَا عَمَلُ الْمِحْجَنِ وَرَأَيْتُ فِيهَا امْرَأَةً طَوِيلَةً سَوْدَاءَ تُعَذَّبُ فِي هِرَّةٍ رَبَطَتْهَا فَلَمْ تُطْعِمْهَا وَلَمْ تُسْقِهَا وَلَمْ تَدَعْهَا تَأْكُلُ مِنْ خَشَاشِ الْأَرْضِ حَتَّى مَاتَتْ وَإِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ فَإِذَا انْكَسَفَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا أَوْ قَالَ فَعَلَ إِحْدَاهُمَا شَيْئًا مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَاسْعَوْا إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللهِ

✧ The sun eclipsed in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed. He prolonged the standing, then bowed and prolonged the bowing, then raised and prolonged [the standing]. Shu'bah said: And I think he said: in the prostration, something similar. He began to weep in his prostration and to blow, and he said: 'My Lord, did You not promise me this while I am asking You for forgiveness? Did You not promise me this while I am among them?' When he finished praying, he said: 'Paradise was shown to me, so much so that if I had stretched out my hand, I would have taken from its fruits. And the Fire was shown to me, and I began to blow for fear that its heat would overwhelm you. And I saw in it the thief of the two camels of the Messenger of Allah, and I saw in it the brother of Banu Da'da', the thief of the pilgrims. When he was noticed, he said: This is the work of the hooked staff. And I saw in it a tall black woman being punished for a cat which she tied up, and she neither fed it nor gave it water, nor let it eat from the insects of the earth, until it died. And the sun and the moon do not eclipse for the death of anyone nor for his life, but they are two signs among the signs of Allah. So when one of them eclipses, or he said: when one of them does something of that, then hasten to the remembrance of Allah.'
