أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ زُرَارَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ كَانَ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ يَؤُمُّ قَوْمَهُ فَدَخَلَ حَرَامٌ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ
أَنْ يَسْقِيَ نَخْلَهُ فَدَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ لَيُصَلِّيَ مَعَ الْقَوْمِ فَلَمَّا رَأَى مُعَاذًا طَوَّلَ تَجَوَّزَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ وَلَحِقَ بِنَخْلِهِ لِيَسْقِيَهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ لَمُنَافِقٌ يَعْجَلُ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ مِنْ أَجْلِ نُخَيْلِهِ فَجَاءَ حَرَامٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمُعَاذٌ عِنْدَهُ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَسْقِيَ نَخْلِي فَدَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ لَأُصَلِّيَ مَعَ الْقَوْمِ فَلَمَّا طَوَّلَ مُعَاذٌ تَجَوَّزْتُ فِي صَلَاتِي وَلَحِقْتُ بِنَخْلِي أَسْقِيهِ فَزَعَمَ أَنِّي مُنَافِقٌ فَأَقْبَلَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى مُعَاذٍ فَقَالَ «أَفَتَّانٌ أَنْتَ؟ لَا تُطَوِّلْ بِهِمْ اقْرَأْ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا وَنَحْوَهَا»

✧ He went to water his palm trees. He entered the mosque to pray with the people, but when he saw Mu'adh lengthen [the prayer], he shortened his own prayer and went back to his palm trees to water them. He said, 'He is indeed a hypocrite, rushing from prayer for the sake of his palm trees.' Haram then came to the Prophet ﷺ while Mu'adh was with him and said, 'O Prophet of God, I wanted to water my palm trees, so I entered the mosque to pray with the people. When Mu'adh lengthened it, I shortened my prayer and went back to my palm trees to water them. He claims that I am a hypocrite.' The Prophet of God ﷺ turned to Mu'adh and said, 'Are you a trial-maker? Do not lengthen it for them. Recite "Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High" and "By the sun and its brightness" and the like of these.'
