أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عَمْرٍو قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا يَقُولُ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَزَاةٍ فَكَسَعَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ الْمُهَاجِرِيُّ يَا لَلْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَقَالَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ يَا لَلْأَنْصَارِ فَسَمِعَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا بَالَ دَعْوَى الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَسَعَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «دَعُوهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُنْتِنَةٌ» فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أُبَيِّ ابْنِ سَلُولٍ فَقَالَ فَعَلُوهَا؟ {لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ} [المنافقون 8] فَقَالَ عُمَرُ دَعْنِي أَضْرِبْ عُنُقَ هَذَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا يَتَحَدَّثَنَّ النَّاسُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ يَقْتُلُ أَصْحَابَهُ»

✧ I heard Jabir say: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition, and a man from the Muhajirun struck a man from the Ansar on the back of his neck. The Muhajir said, "O Muhajirun!" and the Ansari said, "O Ansar!" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard that, and he said, "What is this call of the Jahiliyyah?" They said, "O Messenger of Allah, a man from the Muhajirun struck a man from the Ansar on the back of his neck." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave it, for it is stinking." That reached Abdullah b. Ubayy b. Salul, and he said, "They have done it? If we return to Madinah, the more honored will surely expel the more humiliated." Umar said, "Let me strike the neck of this one." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No, lest people say that Muhammad ﷺ kills his companions."
