أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ لَمَّا قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ مَا قَالَ
جِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَحَلَفَ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَقُلْ فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ تَأْتِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْكَذِبِ؟ حَتَّى جَلَسْتُ فِي الْبَيْتِ مَخَافَةَ إِذَا رَآنِي النَّاسُ أَنْ يَقُولُوا كَذَبْتَ حَتَّى أَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ قَالُوا نَشْهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولِ اللهِ} [المنافقون 1] الْآيَةَ

✧ I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and told him, but he swore that he had not said it. People began to say: “Do you bring lies against the Messenger of God ﷺ?” until I sat in the house, fearing that when people saw me they would say, “You lied,” until God revealed this verse: “When the hypocrites come to you, they say, ‘We bear witness that you are indeed the Messenger of God’” [63:1].
