أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَرْمَلَةَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُقَصُّ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ {وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ جُنَّتَانِ} [الرحمن 46] فَقُلْتُ وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الثَّانِيَةَ {وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ جُنَّتَانِ} [الرحمن 46] فَقُلْتُ الثَّانِيَةَ وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ {وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ جُنَّتَانِ} [الرحمن 46] فَقُلْتُ الثَّالِثَةَ وَإِنْ زِنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «وَإِنْ رَغِمَ أَنْفُ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ»

✧ That he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was being dictated to on the pulpit, saying: {And for him who fears the standing before his Lord are two gardens} [al-Raḥmān: 46]. I said: “Even if he commits adultery and even if he steals, O Messenger of Allah?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the second time: {And for him who fears the standing before his Lord are two gardens} [al-Raḥmān: 46]. I said the second time: “Even if he commits adultery and even if he steals, O Messenger of Allah?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the third time: {And for him who fears the standing before his Lord are two gardens} [al-Raḥmān: 46]. I said the third time: “Even if he commits adultery and even if he steals, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “Even if the nose of Abū al-Dardāʾ is rubbed in dust.”
