أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ تَفَرَّقَ النَّاسُ عَلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ نَاتِلٌ أَيُّهَا الشَّيْخُ حَدِّثْنِي حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ أَوَّلُ النَّاسِ يُقْضَى يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَةٌ رَجُلٌ اسْتُشْهِدَ فَأُتِيَ بِهِ فَعَرَّفَهُ نِعَمَهُ فَعَرَفَهَا قَالَ فَمَا عَمِلْتَ فِيهَا؟ قَالَ قَاتَلْتُ فِيكَ حَتَّى اسْتُشْهِدْتُ قَالَ كَذَبْتَ وَلَكِنْ قَاتَلْتَ لَأَنْ يُقَالَ فُلَانٌ جَرِيءٌ قَدْ قِيلَ ثُمَّ أُمِرَ بِهِ فَسُحِبَ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ حَتَّى أُلْقِيَ فِي النَّارِ وَرَجُلٌ تَعَلَّمَ الْعِلْمَ وَعَلَّمَهُ وَقَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ فَأُتِيَ بِهِ فَعَرَّفَهُ نِعَمَهُ فَعَرَفَهَا قَالَ فَمَا عَمِلْتَ فِيهَا؟ قَالَ تَعَلَّمْتُ الْعِلْمَ وَعَلَّمْتُهُ وَقَرَأْتُ فِيكَ الْقُرْآنَ قَالَ كَذَبْتَ وَلَكِنْ تَعَلَّمْتَ الْعِلْمَ لِيُقَالَ عَالِمٌ وَقَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ لِيُقَالَ قَارِئٌ فَقَدْ قِيلَ ثُمَّ أُمِرَ بِهِ فَسُحِبَ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ حَتَّى أُلْقِيَ فِي النَّارِ وَرَجُلٌ وَسَّعَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَعْطَاهُ مِنْ أَصْنَافِ الْمَالِ كُلِّهِ فَأُتِيَ بِهِ فَعَرَّفَهُ نِعَمَهُ فَعَرَفَهَا قَالَ مَا عَمِلْتَ فِيهَا؟ قَالَ مَا تَرَكْتُ مِنْ سَبِيلٍ تُحِبُّ أَنْ يُنْفَقَ فِيهَا إِلَّا أَنْفَقْتُ فِيهَا لَكَ قَالَ كَذَبْتَ وَلَكِنْ فَعَلْتَ لِيُقَالَ جَوَادٌ فَقَدْ قِيلَ ثُمَّ أُمِرَ بِهِ فَسُحِبَ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ حَتَّى أُلْقِيَ فِي النَّارِ

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “The first of the people against whom judgment will be given on the Day of Resurrection will be three: a man who was martyred. He will be brought and He will make him recognize His blessings, and he will recognize them. He will say: ‘What did you do with them?’ He will say: ‘I fought for Your sake until I was martyred.’ He will say: ‘You have lied. Rather, you fought so that it would be said, “So-and-so is brave,” and that was said.’ Then He will command and he will be dragged on his face until he is thrown into the Fire. And a man who learned knowledge and taught it and recited the Qur’an. He will be brought and He will make him recognize His blessings, and he will recognize them. He will say: ‘What did you do with them?’ He will say: ‘I learned knowledge and taught it, and I recited the Qur’an for Your sake.’ He will say: ‘You have lied. Rather, you learned knowledge so that it would be said, “He is a scholar,” and you recited the Qur’an so that it would be said, “He is a reciter,” and that was said.’ Then He will command and he will be dragged on his face until he is thrown into the Fire. And a man to whom Allah gave generously and gave him every kind of wealth. He will be brought and He will make him recognize His blessings, and he will recognize them. He will say: ‘What did you do with them?’ He will say: ‘I did not leave any way that You love for wealth to be spent except that I spent in it for Your sake.’ He will say: ‘You have lied. Rather, you did it so that it would be said, “He is generous,” and that was said.’ Then He will command and he will be dragged on his face until he is thrown into the Fire.”
