أَخْبَرَنِي كَثِيرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنِ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

أَخْبَرَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا هُمْ جُلُوسٌ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَرُمِيَ بِنَجْمٍ فَاسْتَنَارَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا كُنْتُمْ تَقُولُونَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ إِذَا رُمِيَ بِمِثْلِ هَذَا؟» قَالُوا اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ «وُلِدَ اللَّيْلَةَ رَجُلٌ عَظِيمٌ وَمَاتَ اللَّيْلَةَ رَجُلٌ عَظِيمٌ» قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَإِنَّهَا لَا تُرْمَى لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لَحَيَاةِ أَحَدٍ وَلَكِنَّ رَبَّنَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى إِذَا قَضَى أَمْرًا سَبَّحَ حَمَلَةُ الْعَرْشِ ثُمَّ سَبَّحَ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ التَّسْبِيحُ أَهْلَ هَذِهِ السَّمَاءِ ثُمَّ قَالَ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَ حَمَلَةَ الْعَرْشِ لِحَمَلَةِ الْعَرْشِ مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّكَمْ؟ فَيُخْبِرُونَهُمْ فَيَسْتَخْبِرُ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ الْخَبَرُ هَذِهِ السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا فَيَخْطِفُ الْجِنُّ السَّمْعَ فَيَقْذِفُونَهُ إِلَى أَوْلِيَائِهِمْ فَيَرْمُونَ فَمَا جَاءُوا بِهِ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ فَهُوَ حَقٌّ وَلَكِنَّهُمْ يَقْرِفُونَ فِيهِ وَيَزِيدُونَ

✧ A man from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ of the Anṣār informed me, saying: While they were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a star was shot and it lit up. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “What did you use to say in the time of ignorance when something like this was shot?” They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: “Tonight a great man was born, and tonight a great man died.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Verily, it is not shot for anyone's death nor anyone's life, but when our Lord, blessed and exalted is He, decrees a matter, the bearers of the Throne glorify Him, then the people of the heaven who are next to them glorify, until the glorification reaches the people of this heaven. Then those who are next to the bearers of the Throne say to the bearers of the Throne: ‘What did your Lord say?’ They inform them, and the people of the heavens ask one another until the news reaches this lowest heaven. Then the jinn snatch the hearing and cast it to their allies, so they are shot at. What they bring as it is, is true, but they distort and add to it.”
