أَخْبَرَنِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ الْمَكِّيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ وَهُوَ بَسَّامٌ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ الْفَقِيرِ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ جَابِرٍ فَذَكَرَ الْخَوَارِجَ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ أُمَّتِي يُعَذَّبُونَ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ فَيَكُونُونَ فِي النَّارِ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ يَكُونُوا ثُمَّ يُعَيِّرُهُمْ أَهْلُ الشِّرْكِ فَيَقُولُونَ لَهُمْ مَا نَرَى مَا كُنْتُمْ تُخَالِفُونَا فِيهِ مِنْ تَصْدِيقِكُمْ وَإِيْمَانِكُمْ نَفَعَكُمْ لِمَا يُرِيدُ اللهُ أَنْ يُرِيَ أَهْلَ الشِّرْكِ مِنَ الْحَسْرَةِ فَمَا يَبْقَى مُوَحِدٌ إِلَّا أَخْرَجَهُ اللهُ ثُمَّ تَلَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {رُبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ كَانُوا مُسْلِمِينَ} [الحجر 2]

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Some people of my community will be punished for their sins, and they will remain in the Fire as long as Allah wills. Then the people of polytheism will reproach them and say to them: ‘We do not see that your faith and what you used to differ from us in benefited you.’ Allah wills to show the people of polytheism regret, and no monotheist will remain but that Allah brings him out.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited this verse: {Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims} [al-Ḥijr: 2].
