أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا نُوحٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ قَيْسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَالِكٍ يَعْنِي عَمْرًا عَنْ أَبِي الْجَوْزَاءِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

كَانَتِ امْرَأَةٌ تُصَلِّي خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَسْنَاءُ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ النَّاسِ قَالَ وَكَانَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ يَتَقَدَّمُ فِي الصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ لِئَلَّا يَرَاهَا وَيَسْتَأْخِرُ بَعْضُهُمْ حَتَّى يَكُونَ فِي الصَّفِّ الْمُؤَخِّرِ فَإِذَا رَكَعَ وَذَكَرَ كَلِمَةً مَعْنَاهَا نَظَرَ مِنْ تَحْتِ إِبْطَيْهِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنْكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ} [الحجر 24]

✧ There was a woman who used to pray behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, beautiful, one of the most beautiful of people. He said: Some of the people would go forward to the first row so as not to see her, and some would stay back until they were in the last row, and when he bowed, it was as if he looked from under his armpits. Then Allah, exalted is He, revealed: {And We have known the foremost among you, and We have known the laggards} [al-Ḥijr: 24].
