أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مَالِكٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ لِلنَّاسِ» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِذَا قَامَ فِي مَقَامِكَ لَمْ يُسْمِعِ النَّاسَ مِنَ الْبُكَاءِ فَمُرْ عُمَرَ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ قَالَ «مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ لِحَفْصَةَ قُولِي لَهُ إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِذَا قَامَ فِي مَقَامِكَ لَمْ يُسْمِعِ النَّاسَ مِنَ الْبُكَاءِ فَأْمُرْ عُمَرَ فَلْيُصَلِّ بِالنَّاسِ فَفَعَلَتْ حَفْصَةُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّكُنَّ لَأَنْتُنَّ صَوَاحِبُ يُوسُفَ مُرُوا أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ لِلنَّاسِ» قَالَتْ حَفْصَةُ مَا كُنْتُ لِأُصِيبَ مِنْكِ خَيْرًا

Translation

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." 'A'ishah said: O Messenger of God, when Abu Bakr stands in your place, the people will not hear him because of weeping, so tell 'Umar to lead the people in prayer. He said: "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." 'A'ishah said: Then I said to Hafsah: Tell him that when Abu Bakr stands in your place, the people will not hear him because of weeping, so order 'Umar to lead the people in prayer. Hafsah did so, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Indeed, you are the companions of Yusuf. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." Hafsah said: I was not to obtain any good from you.
