أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ وَعَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ وَقَّاصٍ وَعُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ حِينَ قَالَ أَهْلُ الْإِفْكِ مَا قَالُوا فَبَرَّأَهَا اللهُ مِنْهُ قَالَ وَكُلُّهُمْ حَدَّثَنِي طَائِفَةً مِنْ حَدِيثِهَا وَبَعْضُهُمْ كَانَ أَوْعَى لِحَدِيثِهَا مِنْ بَعْضٍ وَأَثْبَتَ لَهُ اقْتِصَاصًا وَقَدْ وَعَيْتُ عَنْ كُلِّ رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمُ الْحَدِيثَ الَّذِي حَدَّثَنِي عَنْ عَائِشَةَ وَبَعْضُ حَدِيثِهِمْ يُصَدِّقُ بَعْضًا وَإِنْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْعَى لَهُ مِنْ بَعْضٍ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ جَلَسَ فَتَشَهَّدَ حِينَ جَلَسَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَمَّا بَعْدُ يَا عَائِشَةُ فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ بَلَغَنِي عَنْكِ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَإِنْ كُنْتِ بَرِيئَةً فَسَيُبَرِّئُكِ اللهُ وَإِنْ كُنْتِ أَلْمَمْتِ بِذَنْبٍ فَاسْتَغْفِرِي اللهَ وَتُوبِي إِلَيْهِ فَإِنَّ الْعَبْدَ إِذَا اعْتَرَفَ بِذَنْبِهِ ثُمَّ تَابَ تَابَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ» فَقُلْتُ لِأَبِي أَجِبْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِيمَا قَالَ فَقَالَ وَاللهِ مَا أَدْرِي مَا أَقُولُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ لِأُمِّي أَجِيبِي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِيمَا قَالَ قَالَتْ وَاللهِ مَا أَدْرِي مَا أَقُولُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ [133] فَقُلْتُ وَأَنَا جَارِيَةٌ حَدِيثَةُ السِّنِّ لَا أَقْرَأُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ كَثِيرًا إِنِّي وَاللهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ لَقَدْ سَمِعْتُمْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ وَصَدَّقْتُمْ بِهِ فَلَئِنْ قُلْتُ لَكُمْ إِنِّي بَرِيئَةٌ لَا تُصَدِّقُونِي وَلَئِنِ اعْتَرَفْتُ لَكُمْ بِأَمْرٍ وَاللهُ يَعْلَمُ أَنِّي مِنْهُ بَرِيئَةٌ لَتُصَدُّقُنَّنِي فَوَاللهِ مَا أَجِدُ لِي مَثَلًا وَلَا لَكُمْ إِلَّا أَبَا يُوسُفَ حِينَ قَالَ {فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ وَاللهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَى مَا تَصِفُونَ} [يوسف 18] فَوَاللهِ مَا رَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَجْلِسَهُ حَتَّى أَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ جَاءُوا بِالْإِفْكِ عُصْبَةٌ مِنْكُمُ} الْعَشْرَ آيَاتٍ كُلَّهَا مُخْتَصَرٌ

✧ From 'A'ishah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, when the people of the slander said what they said, and God declared her innocent of it. He said: Each of them narrated to me a portion of her story, and some of them were more retentive of her story than others and more accurate in its narration. I retained from each man the hadith he narrated to me about 'A'ishah, and their narratives confirmed one another, even though some were more retentive than others. She said: The Messenger of God ﷺ entered, greeted, then sat down and recited the testimony of faith when he sat. Then he said: "To proceed, O 'A'ishah, it has reached me about you such-and-such. If you are innocent, God will soon declare your innocence, and if you have fallen into sin, then seek God's forgiveness and repent to Him, for when a servant acknowledges his sin and then repents, God turns to him." I said to my father: Answer the Messenger of God ﷺ regarding what he said. He said: By God, I do not know what to say to the Messenger of God ﷺ. I said to my mother: Answer the Messenger of God ﷺ regarding what he said. She said: By God, I do not know what to say to the Messenger of God ﷺ. [133] I said, while I was a young girl who did not read much of the Qur'an: By God, I know that you have heard this story until it settled in your hearts and you believed it. If I say to you that I am innocent, you will not believe me, and if I admit to something while God knows that I am innocent of it, you will certainly believe me. By God, I find no example for myself or for you except the father of Yusuf when he said: {So patience is most fitting, and God is the one sought for help against what you describe} [Yusuf 18]. By God, the Messenger of God ﷺ did not leave his seat until God, may He be exalted, revealed: {Indeed, those who brought the slander are a group among you}—the ten verses in full, abridged.
