✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey. He tapped my back with a stick that was with him, so he turned aside and I turned aside with him until we came to such-and-such a place. He made his camel kneel, then went away until he was hidden from me. Then he came back and said: "Do you have water with you?" I had a small water skin, so I brought it to him and poured water for him. He washed his hands and face. Then he went to wash his forearms, and he was wearing a Syrian jubbah with tight sleeves. He took his hands out from under his clothes and washed his face and forearms. He mentioned something about his forelock and his turban. Ibn Awn said: "I do not remember as I would like." Then he wiped over the leather socks. Then he said: "Do you need anything?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have no need." Then we came and the people had been led by Abd al-Rahman b. Awf, who had prayed one rak'ah of the dawn prayer with them. I went to inform him, but he forbade me. So we prayed what we caught up with and made up what we had missed.
