أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ وَذَكَرَ كَلِمَةً مَعْنَاهَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُتَوَكِّلِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ
أَنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَتَوْا حَيًّا مِنْ أَحْيَاءِ الْعَرَبِ فَلَمْ يَقْرُوهُمْ فَبَيْنَا هُمْ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ لُدِغَ سَيِّدُ أُولَئِكَ فَقَالَ هَلْ فِيكُمْ دَوَاءٌ أَوْ رَاقٍ؟ فَقَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ لَمْ تَقْرُونَا فَلَا نَفْعَلُ حَتَّى تَجْعَلُوا لَنَا جُعْلًا فَجَعَلُوا لَهُمْ قَطِيعًا مِنَ الشَّاءِ فَجَعَلَ يَقْرَأُ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ وَيَجْمَعُ بُزَاقَهُ وَيَنْفُثُ فَبَرِأَ الرَّجُلُ فَأَتَوْا بِالشَّاءِ فَقَالُوا لَا نَأْخُذُهَا حَتَّى نَسْأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَأَلُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَضَحِكَ وَقَالَ «مَا أَدْرَاكَ أَنَّهَا رُقْيَةٌ؟ خُذُوهَا وَاضْرِبُوا لِي فِيهَا بِسَهْمٍ»

✧ Some of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to a tribe of the Arabs and they did not show them hospitality. While they were thus, the chief of those people was stung. He said: “Is there any medicine or anyone who can perform ruqyah among you?” They said: “You did not show us hospitality, so we will not do it until you give us a reward.” So they assigned them a flock of sheep. Then one of them began to recite the Opening of the Book, gather his saliva, and blow. The man was cured. They brought the sheep, but they said: “We will not take them until we ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” They asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he laughed and said: “How did you know that it is a ruqyah? Take them and assign a share for me in them.”
