أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَوَّامُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ صُرَدٍ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ
أَنَّهُ أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِرَجُلَيْنِ قَدِ اخْتَلَفَا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا يَزْعُمُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَقْرَأَهُ قَالَ فَاسْتَقْرَأَهُمَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَاخْتَلَفَا فَقَالَ لَهُمَا «أَحْسَنْتُمَا» قَالَ أُبَيٌ فَدَخَلَنِي مِنَ الشَّكِّ أَشَدُّ مِمَّا كُنْتُ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَقُلْتُ أَحْسَنْتُمَا أَحْسَنْتُمَا قَالَ فَضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَدْرِي بِيَدِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ أَذْهِبْ عَنْهُ الشَّيْطَانَ» قَالَ فَارْفَضَضْتُ عَرَقًا وَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى اللهِ فَرَقًا ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنِّي أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَقْرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ» [250] 10438 أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَوَّامُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ صُرَدٍ قَالَ أَتَى أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِرَجُلَيْنِ اخْتَلَفَا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ نَحْوَهُ

✧ Two men were brought to the Prophet ﷺ who had differed in recitation, each claiming that the Prophet ﷺ had taught him. He had them recite, and they differed. He said to them, "You have both done well." Ubayy said, "Then doubt entered me more severely than what I had been upon in the pre-Islamic era. I said, 'You have both done well? You have both done well?'" He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ struck my chest with his hand, then said, 'O Allah, remove from him the devil.'" He said, "Then I broke out in sweat, and it was as if I were looking at Allah in fear." Then he said, "I was commanded to recite the Qur'an in seven ahruf." [250] 10438 'Abd al-Rahman b. Muhammad b. Salam informed us, he said: Ishaq narrated to us, he said: al-'Awwam narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Sulayman b. Surad, who said: Ubayy b. Ka'b brought two men to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who had differed in recitation, similarly.
