أَخْبَرَنِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمْرَانَ الْقَيْسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ الْهُجَيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

كُنْتُ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَثَرَ بَعِيرُنَا فَقُلْتُ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَا تَقُلْ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِنَّهُ يَعْظُمُ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيَقُولُ بِقُوَّتِي وَلَكِنْ قُلْ بِاسْمِ اللهِ فَإِنَّهُ يَصْغُرُ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ الذُّبَابِ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الصَّوَابُ عِنْدَنَا حَدِيثُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ وَهَذَا عِنْدِي خَطَأٌ 10314 أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ قَالَ كَانَ رَجُلٌ رَدِيفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ عَلَى دَابَّتِهِ فَعَثَرَتْ بِهِ دَابَّتُهُ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ نَحْوَهُ مُرْسَلٌ

✧ I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and our camel stumbled. I said, "May Satan perish." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not say, 'May Satan perish,' for he grows until he becomes like a house and says, 'By my strength.' But say, 'In the name of Allah,' for he shrinks until he becomes like a fly." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: The correct version in our view is the hadith of 'Abd Allah b. al-Mubarak, and this one is, in my opinion, a mistake. 10314 Muhammad b. Bashshar informed us; 'Abd al-Wahhab narrated to us; Khalid narrated to us from Abu Tamimah from Abu al-Malih, who said: A man was riding behind the Prophet ﷺ on his mount, and his mount stumbled with him. The man said, "May Satan perish" – something similar, mursal.
