أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدٌ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ

عَنْ رِدْفِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ نَحْوَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا عَثَرَتْ بِكَ الدَّابَّةُ فَلَا تَقُلْ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِنَّهُ يَتَعَاظَمُ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيَقُولُ بِقُوَّتِي صَنَعَتُهُ وَلَكِنْ قُلْ بِاسْمِ اللهِ فَإِنَّهُ يَتَصَاغَرُ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ الذُّبَابِ

Translation

✧ From the one who rode behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, something similar: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When your mount stumbles, do not say, 'May Satan perish,' for he swells until he becomes like a house and says, 'By my strength I did it.' But say, 'In the name of Allah,' for he shrinks until he becomes like a fly."
