أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ الْأَسْدِيِّ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا أُتِيَ بِدَابَّةٍ فَوَضَعَ رِجْلَهُ فِي الرِّكَابِ فَقَالَ «بِسْمِ اللهِ» فَلَمَّا اسْتَوَى عَلَيْهَا قَالَ

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ {الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ} [الزخرف 14] ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ ثَلَاثًا وَحَمِدَ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي إِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ» فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَوْمًا مِثْلَ مَا قُلْتُ ثُمَّ اسْتَضْحَكَ فَقُلْتُ مِمَّ ضَحِكْتَ؟ قَالَ يَعْجَبُ رَبُّنَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى مِنْ قَوْلِ عَبْدِهِ «سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ ذُنُوبِي إِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ» قَالَ «عَلِمَ عَبْدِي أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ»

✧ "Praise be to Allah, {who has subjected this to us, and we were not capable of it. And indeed to our Lord we will return} [al-Zukhruf 14]." Then he said Allahu Akbar three times and praised Allah three times, then said: "There is no deity but Allah. Glory be to You, I have wronged myself, so forgive my sins; indeed none forgives sins except You." Then he said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day said the like of what I said, then he laughed. I said: "Why did you laugh?" He said: "Our Lord, Blessed and Exalted, wonders at the saying of His servant: 'Glory be to You, I have wronged myself, so forgive my sins; indeed none forgives sins except You.' He said: 'My servant has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins.'"
