Sahih Muslim 818b

Translation

" I heard Hisham b. Hakim reciting Surah al-Furqan during the lifetime of Messenger of Allah ﷺ." The rest is the same but with this addition:" I was about to catch hold of him in prayer, but I exercised patience till he pronounced salutation.

• وَحَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ، أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ، وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيَّ، أَخْبَرَاهُ أَنَّهُمَا، سَمِعَا عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَكِيمٍ، يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ فِي حَيَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم. وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَزَادَ فَكِدْتُ أُسَاوِرُهُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَتَصَبَّرْتُ حَتَّى سَلَّمَ

  machine translationAnd Ḥarmalah b. Yaḥyā narrated to me: Ibn Wahb informed us: Yūnus informed me, from Ibn Shihāb: ʿUrwah b. al-Zubayr informed me that al-Miswar b. Makhramah and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAbd al-Qārī informed him that they both heard ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb say: I heard Hishām b. Ḥakīm reciting Sūrat al-Furqān during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. And he related the hadith like it, and added: "I almost leapt upon him in the prayer, but I restrained myself until he had given the salām." Report a problem
