✧ The gatherings of the people were the mosques until they returned from Siffin and dissociated themselves from the arbitration. Then the people took to sitting in the streets, seeking news. While we were sitting with Ali ؓ, a man stood up and said: Permit me to speak. He was occupied with what he was doing. We said to him: What did you want to ask the Commander of the Faithful about? He said: I was in the Umrah and entered upon Aisha ؓ. She said: Who are these people who went out before you, called Harura'? She said: Did you witness their destruction? Indeed, Ali b. Abi Talib, if he wished, would tell you their story. When Ali ؓ finished what he was doing, he said: Where is the man? He related to him, and Ali ؓ proclaimed the talbiyah and said Allahu Akbar. Then he said: I entered upon the Messenger of God ﷺ when no one was with him but Aisha ؓ. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: How will you be, O son of Abi Talib, with a people of such-and-such? I said: God and His Messenger know best. He ﷺ said: A people who will come out from the direction of the east, reciting the Quran, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will go out of the religion as an arrow goes out of the game. Among them is a man with a deformed hand, as if his hand is the breast of an Abyssinian woman. He ؓ said: I adjure you by God, I told you that he is among them, and you said he is not among them. Then you brought him to me, dragging him? They said: O God, yes. He ؓ proclaimed the talbiyah and said Allahu Akbar.
