✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ sent word to Quraysh: “To proceed: if you disavow the alliance of Banū Bakr or pay blood money for Khuzāʿah, [then well and good]; otherwise, I declare war on you.” Quraẓah b. ʿAbd ʿAmr b. Nawfal b. ʿAbd Manāf, Muʿāwiyah’s in-law, said: “Banū Bakr are an ill-omened people. We will not pay blood money for what they killed, lest neither short hair nor wool remain for us, and we will not disavow their alliance, for no one else remains upon our religion besides them. Rather, we will declare war on him.”
