✧ When Suraqah returned from pursuing the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr ؓ, he began to recall what he had seen of the horse and the hardship he had endured in seeking them. Abu Jahl heard of that, and he feared that Suraqah might embrace Islam after seeing what he had seen. So he composed some verses about it: "O Banu Mudlij, I fear your fool Suraqah, who seeks to mislead you into supporting Muhammad. Beware that he does not abandon your assembly, so that you become scattered after honor and sovereignty. The fool of the tribe thinks he has brought a false argument against a clear, rightly guided path of truth. How can what he says be the truth, when he has not come with clear, upright truth? But he has gone as a stranger, with his displeasure, to Yathrib, away from us—so far is his birthplace! And if he had not come to Yathrib as a fugitive, the falling of the polished Mashrafi sword would have grieved him." Suraqah answered him, saying: "O Abu al-Hakam, by Allah, if you had witnessed the affair of my steed when its legs sank, you would have marveled and would not doubt that Muhammad came to us with a clear proof—so who can conceal it? Restrain the people from him, for I see that one day the signs of his affair will become manifest, through a matter in which victory will be wished for—and alas, if only all people would be at peace with him."
