✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me at dawn while I was on my bed, and he sat down. He ﷺ said: "I sensed that last night I was in the Sacred Mosque. Jibril ﷺ came to me and took me to the door of the mosque, where there was a white beast, larger than a donkey but smaller than a mule, with twitching ears. I mounted it, and it would place its hoof at the farthest extent of its gaze. When it took me downhill, its front legs would lengthen and its hind legs shorten; when it took me uphill, its hind legs would lengthen and its front legs shorten. Jibril ﷺ did not fall behind me, until we reached the Holy House [Jerusalem]. I tied it to the ring that the prophets used to tie their mounts to. Then a group of prophets was presented to me, among them Ibrahim, Musa, and 'Isa (peace and blessings be upon them). I prayed with them and spoke with them. Then I was brought two vessels, one red and one white. I drank from the white one. Jibril ﷺ said to me: 'You drank milk and left wine. Had you drunk wine, your nation would have strayed.' Then I mounted it again and came to the Sacred Mosque, where I prayed the dawn prayer." She said: "I clung to his cloak and said: 'I ask you by Allah, O cousin, do not tell Quraysh about this, lest those who believed you disbelieve you!' He struck my hand from his cloak and pulled it away from me, and it rose above his belly. I looked at the folds of his stomach above his waist wrapper, like the folds of parchment, and there was a radiant light at his heart that almost snatched my sight. I fell down in prostration. When I raised my head, he ﷺ had already left. I said to my servant girl, Nab'ah: 'Woe to you, follow him and see what he says and what is said to him.' When Nab'ah returned, she informed me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to a group of Quraysh in the Hijr, among them al-Mut'im b. 'Adi, 'Amr b. Hisham, and al-Walid b. al-Mughirah. He ﷺ said: 'Last night I prayed the evening prayer in this mosque, and I prayed the dawn prayer here, and in between I went to the Holy House [Jerusalem]. A group of prophets was presented to me, among them Ibrahim, Musa, and 'Isa (peace and blessings be upon them). I prayed with them and spoke with them.' 'Amr b. Hisham said mockingly: 'Describe them to me.' He ﷺ said: 'As for 'Isa ﷺ, he is above medium height and below tall, broad-chested, with a reddish complexion, curly hair, and a slight reddish tinge to his hair, resembling 'Urwah b. Mas'ud al-Thaqafi. As for Musa ﷺ, he is heavy-set, dark-skinned, tall, as if he were from the men of Shanu'ah, with overlapping teeth, a drawn-in lip, and protruding gums, stern-faced. As for Ibrahim ﷺ, by Allah, he is the person most resembling me in character and appearance.'" She said: "They made an uproar and considered it a grave matter. Al-Mut'im b. 'Adi said: 'All your affairs before today were ordinary, not like your statement today. As for me, I testify that you are a liar. We strike the livers of camels to reach the Holy House, going up for a month and coming down for a month, and you claim that you went there in a single night! By al-Lat and al-'Uzza, I will not believe you, and what you say has never happened.' Al-Mut'im b. 'Adi had a cistern at Zamzam that 'Abd al-Muttalib had given him, so he demolished it and swore by al-Lat and al-'Uzza that he would never give a drop of water from it again. Abu Bakr ؓ said: 'O Mut'im, what an evil thing you have said to your nephew. You have insulted him and called him a liar. I testify that he is truthful.' They said: 'O Muhammad, describe the Holy House [Jerusalem] to us.' He said: 'I entered it at night and left it at night.' Jibril ﷺ came to him and placed him on his wing, and he began to say: 'A gate of it is such-and-such in such-and-such a place, and another gate is such-and-such in such-and-such a place,' while Abu Bakr ؓ kept saying: 'You have spoken the truth, you have spoken the truth.' Nab'ah ؓ said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that day: "O Abu Bakr, I have named you al-Siddiq." They said: 'O Mut'im, let us ask him about something more beneficial to us than the Holy House [Jerusalem]. O Muhammad...'"
