✧ I never intended anything indecent that the people of the pre-Islamic era used to intend, except twice in my life, and in both Allah, Most High, protected me from it. One night I said to a young man from Quraysh who was with me in the highlands of Makkah tending sheep for their owners: 'Watch my sheep so I can spend the night in Makkah as the young men do.' He said, 'Yes.' So I went out and came to the nearest house of Makkah. I heard singing, the beating of tambourines, and reed pipes. I said, 'What is this?' They said, 'So-and-so married so-and-so,' for a man of Quraysh married a woman of Quraysh. I enjoyed that singing and that sound until sleep overcame me, and nothing woke me but the touch of the sun. I returned to my companion and he said, 'What did you do?' I told him. Then another night I said to him the same thing, and he did. I went out and heard the like of that, and I was told the like of what I was told. I enjoyed what I heard until sleep overcame me, and nothing woke me but the touch of the sun. Then I returned to my companion and he said, 'What did you do?' I said, 'I did nothing.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'By Allah, after that I never intended any evil of what the people of the pre-Islamic era did, until Allah, Mighty and Majestic, honored me with His prophethood.'
