حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ طَارِقٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ، قَالَ:

إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةَ مَرْحُومَةٌ، لَا عَذَابَ عَلَيْهَا إِلَّا مَا عَذَّبَتْ بِهِ أَنْفُسَهَا، قُلْتُ: وَكَيْفَ تُعَذِّبُ أَنْفُسَهَا ؟ قَالَ: أَمَا كَانَ يَوْمَ النَّهَرِ عَذَابٌ، أَمَا كَانَ يَوْمَ الْجَمَلِ عَذَابٌ، أَمَا كَانَ يَوْمَ صِفِّينَ عَذَابٌ ؟

✧ This nation is shown mercy; there is no punishment upon it except what it inflicts upon itself. I said: And how does it punish itself? He said: Was there not punishment on the day of al-Nahar? Was there not punishment on the day of al-Jamal? Was there not punishment on the day of Siffin?
