وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ، حَدَّثَنَا رِشْدِينُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هَانِئٍ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ، عَنِ الْغِفَارِيِّ:

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ بِالْمَدِينَةِ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِأَصْحَابِهِ ؓ: كَيْفَ بِكُمْ إِذَا شَبِعْتُمْ مِنَ الْخُبْزِ وَالزَّيْتِ ؟ فَضَجُّوا وَكَبَّرُوا سَاعَةً، ثُمَّ قَالُوا: مَتَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: إِذَا فُتِحَتِ الْأَمْصَارُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: كَيْفَ بِكُمْ إِذَا اخْتَلَفَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْأَلْوَانُ وَغَدَوْتُمْ بِثِيَابٍ وَجِئْتُمْ بِأُخْرَى ؟ قَالُوا: مَتَى ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: إِذَا فُتِحَتِ الْأَمْصَارُ، وَفُتِحَتْ فَارِسُ وَالرُّومُ وَقَالُوا: فَهُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنَّا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، يُدْرِكُونَ الْفُتُوحَ، قَالَ: بَلْ أَنْتُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْهُمْ، وَأَبْنَاؤُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبْنَائِهِمْ، وَأَبْنَاءُ أَبْنَائِكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ أَبْنَائِهِمْ، لَمْ يَأْخُذُوا بِشُكْرٍ، لَمْ يَأْخُذُوا بِشُكْرٍ، لَمْ يَأْخُذُوا بِشُكْرٍ

Translation

✧ He heard Abu Hurayrah ؓ in Madinah say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his Companions ؓ: "How will you be when you are satiated with bread and oil?" They raised a clamor and glorified Allah for a while, then said, "When, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "When the cities are conquered." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them: "How will you be when various colors differ for you and you go out in some garments and return in others?" They said, "When will that be, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "When the cities are conquered, and Persia and Byzantium are conquered." They said, "Then they are better than us, O Messenger of Allah, for they will attain the conquests." He said, "Rather, you are better than them, and your sons are better than their sons, and the sons of your sons are better than the sons of their sons. They did not take hold of gratitude. They did not take hold of gratitude. They did not take hold of gratitude."
