قَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنِ الْأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ؓ قَالَ:
كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ يَقُولُ: لَا يَدْخُلُ أَحَدٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فِي بَابٍ إِلَّا دَخَلَ مَعَهُ نَاسٌ. وَلَا أَدْرِي مَا تَأْوِيلُ قَوْلِهِ، حَتَّى طُعِنَ عُمَرُ ؓ فَأَمَرَ صُهَيْبًا ؓ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ، وَأَمَرَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ لِلنَّاسِ طَعَامًا

✧ I used to hear Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ say: 'No one from Quraysh enters a door except that people enter with him.' I did not know the interpretation of his saying until Umar ؓ was stabbed. Then he ordered Suhayb ؓ to lead the people in prayer and ordered that food be prepared for the people.
