✧ Zayd b. ʿAmr and Waraqah b. Nawfal went out seeking the religion until they came to a monk in Mosul. He said to Zayd b. ʿAmr: “Where have you come from, O owner of the camel?” He said: “From the house of Abraham.” He said: “What do you seek?” He said: “I seek the religion.” He said: “Return, for the one you seek is about to appear in your land.” As for Waraqah, he became a Christian. As for me, Christianity was offered to me but it did not suit me. He returned saying: “At Your service, truly, truly; in worship and servitude; righteousness I seek, not the fancy. Do you see one who emigrates like one who says: I believe in what Abraham believed?” Then he would say: “I seek for you, O God, a humble, submissive servant. Whatever You impose on me, I will undertake.” Then he would fall down in prostration. His son came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of God, my father was as you have seen and as you have heard. Shall I seek forgiveness for him?” He ﷺ said: “Yes, for he will be raised on the Day of Resurrection as a nation alone.” Zayd b. ʿAmr came to the Messenger of God ﷺ while Zayd b. Ḥārithah ؓ was with him, and they were eating from their food. They invited him to their meal, but Zayd b. ʿAmr said to the Prophet ﷺ: “We do not eat what is slaughtered on stone altars.”
