✧ The Virtue of Khuzaymah b. Thabit, ᴿᴬ

قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ: حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ الْجُعْفِيُّ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ، ثَنَا أَبُو فَرْوَةَ الْجُهَنِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ خُزَيْمَةَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ؓ قَالَ:

إِنَّهُ مَرَّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَقَدِ اشْتَرَى فَرَسًا مِنْ أَعْرَابِيٍّ فَجَحَدَهُ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ الْبَيْعَ، فَقَالَ: لَمْ أَبِعْكَ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: قَدْ بِعْتَنِي، فَمَرَّ عَلَيْهِمْ خُزَيْمَةُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ ؓ فَسَمِعَ قَوْلَهُمَا، فَقَالَ: أَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ بِعْتَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: وَمَا عِلْمُكَ بِذَلِكَ وَلَمْ تَشْهَدْنَا ؟ فَقَالَ ؓ: قَدْ شَهِدْنَا عَلَى مَا هُوَ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، فَأَجَازَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ شَهَادَتَهُ بِشَهَادَةِ رَجُلَيْنِ حَتَّى مَاتَ خُزَيْمَةُ ؓ

✧ He passed by the Prophet ﷺ after he had bought a horse from a Bedouin, and the Bedouin denied the sale, saying: “I did not sell to you.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “You did sell to me.” Khuzaymah b. Thābit ؓ passed by them and heard their words, and said: “I testify that you sold.” The Prophet ﷺ said to him: “How do you know that when you did not witness us?” He ؓ said: “We have testified to what is greater than that.” The Prophet ﷺ accepted his testimony as that of two men until Khuzaymah ؓ died.
