✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ was on a journey, and his riding camel carried the provisions of the Prophet ﷺ. Ṣafwān b. al-Muʿaṭṭal came and said: “I am hungry.” He said: “I will not give you until the Prophet ﷺ orders me, and the people dismount, and we eat.” He said: “So he said, like this, with the sword,” and he cut the hamstring of the riding camel. He said: “When some matter distressed them, they would say: ‘Hold back the front, hold back the front.’ They heard, so they halted. The Messenger of God ﷺ came, and when he saw what Ṣafwān b. al-Muʿaṭṭal had done to the riding camel, he said to him: ‘Depart.’ He ordered the people to continue, and Ṣafwān b. al-Muʿaṭṭal began to follow them until they camped. Then he started coming to their mounts, saying: ‘To where has the Messenger of God ﷺ expelled me? To the Fire has he expelled me?’ They came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: ‘O Messenger of God, Ṣafwān b. al-Muʿaṭṭal has been grieving at our mounts since last night, saying: ‘To where has the Messenger of God ﷺ expelled me? To the Fire has he expelled me?’ The Messenger of God ﷺ said: ‘Ṣafwān b. al-Muʿaṭṭal has a foul tongue but a pure heart.’”
