وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ: حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، ثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ ؓ قَالَ:
إِنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَخْطِبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ، فَقَالَ النَّاسُ: أَتَرَوْنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَجِدُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ؟ فَقَالَ نَاسٌ: وَمَا ذَلِكَ ؟ إِنَّمَا هِيَ امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ، وَقَالَ نَاسٌ: لَيَجِدَنَّ مِنْ هَذَا، يَتَزَوَّجُ ابْنَةَ عَدُوِّ اللهِ عَلَى ابْنَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَحَمِدَ اللهَ تَعَالَى وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَمَّا بَعْدُ، فَمَا بَالُ أَقْوَامٍ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنِّي لَا أَجِدُ لِفَاطِمَةَ ؓ وَإِنَّمَا فَاطِمَةُ بَضْعَةٌ مِنِّي ؟ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ ابْنَةَ عَدُوِّ اللهِ عَلَى ابْنَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ
Translation

✧ Ali b. Abi Talib ؓ wanted to propose to the daughter of Abu Jahl. People said: "Do you think the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would be affected by that?" Some said: "What of it? She is just a woman among women." Others said: "He will certainly be affected by this: marrying the daughter of Allah's enemy along with the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." That reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he praised Allah the Exalted and extolled Him, then said: "Now then, what is the matter with people who claim that I am not affected concerning Fatimah ؓ? Indeed, Fatimah is a part of me. It is not for anyone to marry the daughter of Allah's enemy while married to the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
