أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَلْحَلَةَ أَنَّ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ حَدَّثَهُ عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ

أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ خَطَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ عَلَى فَاطِمَةَ قَالَ فَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ فِي ذَلِكَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِهِ وَأَنَا يَوْمَئِذٍ كالْمُحْتَلِمِ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ فَاطِمَةَ مِنِّي وَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ تُفْتَنَ فِي دِينِهَا وَذَكَرَ صِهْرًا لَهُ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ فَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ فِي مُصَاهَرَتِهِ فَأَحْسَنَ قَالَ »

✧ ʿAli b. Abi Talib ؓ proposed to the daughter of Abu Jahl in addition to Fatimah. He said, 'I heard the Prophet ﷺ while he was sermonizing about that on his minbar, and I was at that time on the verge of puberty. He said, "Indeed Fatimah is from me, and I fear that she will be tempted in her religion." He mentioned a relative by marriage of his from the Banu ʿAbd Shams and praised him for his conduct as an in-law, and he spoke well. He said,'
