✧ His ﷺ Notifying of the Caliphs After Him

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَهْزٍ الصَّقْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ بِنْتِ مَالِكِ بْنِ مِغْوَلٍ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنِ الْمُخْتَارِ بْنِ فُلْفُلٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ - ؓ قَالَ:

جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ، فَدَخَلَ إِلَى بُسْتَانٍ، فَجَاءَ آتٍ، فَدَقَّ الْبَابَ، فَقَالَ ﷺ: يَا أَنَسُ، قُمْ فَافْتَحْ لَهُ، وَبَشِّرْهُ بِالْجَنَّةِ، وَبَشِّرْهُ بِالْخِلَافَةِ مِنْ بَعْدِي، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أُعْلِمُهُ ؟ قَالَ ﷺ: أَعْلِمْهُ فَإِذَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ، قُلْتُ: أَبْشِرْ بِالْجَنَّةِ، وَأَبْشِرْ بِالْخِلَافَةِ مِنْ بَعْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ آتٍ، فَدَقَّ الْبَابَ، فَقَالَ ﷺ: يَا أَنَسُ، فَذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِهِ سَوَاءً، فَإِذَا عُمَرُ ؓ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: أَبْشِرْ بِالْجَنَّةِ، وَبِالْخِلَافَةِ مِنْ بَعْدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ قَالَ: ثُمَّ جَاءَ آتٍ، فَدَقَّ الْبَابَ، فَقَالَ ﷺ: قُمْ يَا أَنَسُ، قُمْ فَافْتَحْ لَهُ، وَبَشِّرْهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَبَشِّرْهُ بِالْخِلَافَةِ مِنْ بَعْدِ عُمَرَ ؓ، وَأَنَّهُ مَقْتُولٌ، قَالَ: فَخَرَجْتُ، فَإِذَا عُثْمَانُ ؓ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: أَبْشِرْ بِالْجَنَّةِ، وَبِالْخِلَافَةِ مِنْ بَعْدِ عُمَرَ ؓ، وَأَنَّكَ مَقْتُولٌ، فَدَخَلَ ؓ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَاللهِ مَا تَغَنَّيْتُ، وَلَا تَمَنَّيْتُ، وَلَا مَسِسْتُ فَرْجِي مُنْذُ بَايَعْتُكَ، قَالَ ﷺ: هُوَ ذَاكَ يَا عُثْمَانُ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ came and entered a garden. Then someone came and knocked on the door. He ﷺ said, ‘O Anas, get up and open for him, and give him glad tidings of Paradise and of the caliphate after me.’ I said, ‘O Messenger of God, shall I inform him?’ He ﷺ said, ‘Inform him.’ It was Abu Bakr ؓ. I said, ‘Rejoice in Paradise and in the caliphate after the Messenger of God ﷺ.’ Then someone came and knocked on the door. He ﷺ said, ‘O Anas,’ and he mentioned the same thing exactly. It was ‘Umar ؓ. I said to him, ‘Rejoice in Paradise and in the caliphate after Abu Bakr ؓ.’ Then someone came and knocked on the door. He ﷺ said, ‘Get up, O Anas, open for him, and give him glad tidings of Paradise and of the caliphate after ‘Umar ؓ, and that he will be killed.’ He said, ‘I went out and it was ‘Uthman ؓ. I said to him, “Rejoice in Paradise and in the caliphate after ‘Umar ؓ, and that you will be killed.”’ He ؓ entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and said to him, ‘O Messenger of God, by God, I have not sung, nor wished, nor touched my private part since I pledged allegiance to you.’ He ﷺ said, ‘It is that, O ‘Uthman.’”
