✧ When [the verse] 'Perish the hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he' was revealed, the wife of Abu Lahab came to the Prophet ﷺ while Abu Bakr ؓ was with him. When Abu Bakr ؓ saw her, he said, 'O Messenger of God, she is a foul-mouthed woman, and I fear that she may harm you. Would you please leave?' He ﷺ said, 'She will not see me.' She came and said, 'O Abu Bakr, your companion has satirized me.' He ؓ said, 'He does not say poetry.' She said, 'You are believed in my eyes,' and left. I said, 'O Messenger of God, she did not see you.' He ﷺ said, 'An angel kept shielding me with his wing.'
