✧ The Prophet ﷺ was teaching a young man to recite, and he recited: 'Do they not reflect upon the Quran, or are there locks upon their hearts?' The young man said, 'Upon them are locks until Allah, Mighty and Majestic, opens them.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'You have spoken the truth.' Then some people from Yemen came to him and asked him to write a letter for them. He ordered 'Abd Allah b. al-Arqam ؓ to write a letter for them, and he wrote it and brought it to them. He said, 'You have done well.' 'Umar ؓ thought that he would be in charge of something of the people's affairs. When 'Umar ؓ became caliph, he asked about the young man, and they said, 'He was martyred.' 'Umar ؓ said, 'The Prophet ﷺ said such-and-such, and the young man said such-and-such, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "You have spoken the truth." So I knew that Allah would guide him.' And 'Umar ؓ appointed 'Abd Allah b. al-Arqam ؓ over the treasury.
