✧ Regarding the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: “We relate to you the best of stories” [to the end of] the verse, he said: Allah (Exalted is He) sent down the Qur'an to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he recited it to them for a time. They said: “O Messenger of Allah, if only you would tell us stories?” So Allah, Blessed and Exalted, sent down: “Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the clear Book” up to His saying: “We relate to you the best of stories” [to the end of] the verse. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited it to them for a time. They said: “O Messenger of Allah, if only you would speak to us?” So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent down: “Allah has sent down the best statement, a Book whose parts resemble each other” [to the end of] the verse. In all of that they were commanded with the Qur'an. Khallad said: Another added to it, saying: They said: “O Messenger of Allah, if only you would remind us?” So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent down: “Has the time not come for those who believe that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah” [to the end of] the verse.
