✧ Regarding the words of God, blessed and exalted be He: "Alif Lām Rā. These are the verses of the clear Book. Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qurʾān that you might understand. We relate to you the best of stories" [Q 12:1–3]. He said: The Qurʾān was revealed to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he recited it to them for a time. They said: "O Messenger of God, if only you would tell us stories." Then God, mighty and glorious, revealed: "Alif Lām Rā. These are the verses of the clear Book. Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qurʾān that you might understand. We relate to you the best of stories." They said: "O Messenger of God, if only you would narrate to us." Then God, mighty and glorious, revealed: "God has sent down the best statement, a Book whose parts resemble each other" [Q 39:23]. All of that, they were being commanded with the Qurʾān or disciplined with the Qurʾān. Khallād said: And he added to me in it: They said: "O Messenger of God, if only you would remind us." Then God, mighty and glorious, revealed: "Has the time not come for those who believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of God" [Q 57:16].
