✧ When this verse was revealed: "And those who hoard gold and silver," it became burdensome upon the Muslims, and they said: "None of us can leave for his child wealth that remains after him." He said: "I will relieve you." So they set out, and Umar ؓ set out, and Thawban ؓ followed him, and he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Prophet of Allah, this verse has become burdensome upon your companions." The Prophet ﷺ said: "We did not prescribe zakat except for what remains of your wealth, and inheritance was prescribed in wealth so that it remains after you." He said: So Umar ؓ said the takbir, and the Prophet ﷺ said to him: "Shall I not tell you what is hoarded? The righteous woman: when he looks at her, she pleases him; when he commands her, she obeys him; and when he is absent from her, she protects him."
