✧ The Virtue of Persisting in Deeds

قَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو فَاخِتَةَ التَّيْمِيُّ، مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ قَالَ:

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ ابْنَ أُخْتِي قَدِ اجْتَهَدَ فِي الْعِبَادَةِ وَأَجْهَدَ نَفْسَهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: « تِلْكَ شِرَّةُ الْإِسْلَامِ، لِكُلِّ شِرَّةٍ فَتْرَةٌ فَارْتَقِبْهُ عِنْدَ فَتْرَتِهِ، فَإِنْ قَارَبَ فَلَعَلَّ وَإِنْ هَلَكَ فَتَبًّا لَهُ

Translation

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, my nephew has exerted himself in worship and exhausted himself. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "That is the fervor of Islam. Every fervor has a lull, so watch for his lull. If he keeps close [to moderation], then perhaps [he will be fine], but if he perishes, then woe to him."
